Katja Herbers is a child of Vera Beths who plays the violin and Werner Herbers on oboe. As a child she travelled to America together with her mother as the L'Archibudelli chamber group toured. The couple's mother was remarried Anner Bylsma, a cellist. her father married costume designer Leonie Polek, who brought her to theater. Her mother was a Canadian au pair and learned to communicate in Dutch German and English growing as a young. Herbers completed her studies at her school, the Ignatius Gymnasium. She completed her degree in psychology in the University of Amsterdam. During her psychology studies she went to the local theater academy De Trap. Following her move to New York she studied at the HB Studio. Then she was accepted into the Theaterschool in Amsterdam. During her studies she starred in the films Pietje Bell and Brush with Fate . Following graduation, Herbers joined the Johan Simons Theater Company NTGent in Ghent. Herbers joined Germany's Munich Kammerspiele.
